July 2016 – Gridiron Bondage Rules

Take a professional defensive coordinator. Arguably the ONLY professional coach in a position of importance and authority on this team. There’s Kavis Reed…but until he manages to light SOME kind of fire under Logan, Bede OR the coverage units, I’ll demote him for the purposes of this post.

DENY that DC the right to leave, pursue his career AWAY from this frankly TOXIC and post-apocalyptic franchise.

What would I do? What would you do? WHAT WOULD ANYONE DO?!?

There have to be a thousand ways of sabotaging your own squad, while maintaining the illusion that everything is cool…NO WORRIES.

I’ve identified ONE technique that Noel Thorpe MAY be utilizing to accomplish his “evil” ends: Coach Thorpe has a reputation for aggression. Being aggressive, in proper measure and at the appropriate time, WELL it will earn you the reputation that (until recently) Thorpe has so justly deserved.

BUT…as Coach Austin pointed out at halftime…EVERY problem on the football field has it’s “adjustment”…a counter move designed to neutralize your opponent’s advantage. If your opponent’s DC is being RECKLESSLY aggressive…it opens up a number of counter-moves.

Even without the benefit of watching the game again, a GLARING example springs to mind: a 60yd screen play…FLAWLESSLY executed by the Ticats…was just BEGGING to happen all game.

So that’s it for the ever-tedious expose of this DEEPLY messed up franchise. A defensive coordinator in bondage, lashing out ANY WAY HE CAN.

I’d like to point out that the Ticats were ripe for the plucking last night. If Calvillo had swapped say 30%  of those dropback, pocketpass attempts that INVARIABLY and FUCKING INEVITABLY had Cato scrambling for his life…for some rollouts (left or right, Cato is equally adept at both), read-option plays, screens, play-action, option plays…the list goes on…we’d be celebrating an Alouettes victory right now.

I FUCKING PERSONALLY GUARANTEE IT!!!

Instead we’re faced with the EVER-MORE-DAMNING spectacle of a talent like Cato being sacked more than is humanly possible to survive. Popp needs to parachute in a coach who’ll design some packages for these kids, assuming such can even BE integrated into Calvillo’s so-called playbook.

I vote for Matt Dunigan:
